Using ripped paper, rubber stamping and adding glitter....this card
project has many elements that you will love to use over and over.
Dragonflies are good for just about any occasion, both happy and sad, so
you can't go wrong making a card with them.
We have a couple of dragonfly rubber stamps and they are perfect to use in the summer season. There is Dragonfly Quatrefoil Rubber Stamp and Dragonfly Flourish Rubber Stamp. Both stamps feature elements that make them a fancy centerpiece on any project and either can be used to create the card below. Also, we have an awesome Dragonflies and More Rubber Stamp Set that has two different dragonfly borders.
For
this card, we make use of an oval cutout and a tear edge that we add
glitter to with just plain clear school glue. The dragonfly, which
measures about 3 inches wide, sits inside the oval opening.
First, I stamped our Dragonfly Flourish 2x and cut out the wings and adhere them onto the first stamping.
I used thin, double stick tape on the inside next to the body and thick, foam adhesive dots on the outsides. This makes this paper dragonfly look true to life!
I colored in the wings using Copic markers and gel pens. After cutting out the stamped design, I added Memento dye ink to the edge using a foam applicator. The stamp ink used was VersaFine Sepia Brown.
This glitter edge is easy to make and it looks awesome on any card. The paper I used is a pearl card stock.
Hint:
The secret to getting a good tear on paper is the do it swiftly, it
ends up straighter, in my opinion. I have tried tearing a line slowly
and it just zigzags too much. Practice on a scrap piece of paper that
you will be using.
Add a glue to the tear line and sprinkle on glitter, the finer the better.
Tip: After you have allowed the glittered glue to dry, seal it with Mod Podge.
This helps keep the glitter from falling all over when handling the card.
The background of the Dragonfly Flourish stamp has a grungy swirl pattern. I stamped it in a sepia brown ink and colored the area with a lilac marker. Then I added a green edge to the cutout. The colors of green and lilac go together nicely and have a fun summer/spring look.
