Hand Lettering Practice Vintage Tattoo Style

We have a new download available to practice hand lettering in the style of "Sailor Jerry" which has an artsy, California, tattoo vibe. Hand lettering is a wonderful way to draw letters and do something artistic with minimal supplies. All you need is paper, pencil and a marker. Add a rubber stamp to embellish your creation. This is a modified version of the common tattoo font that I created and am sharing it with you. Practice your hand lettering on handmade cards, scrapbook and journal pages. This is a 2-page pdf download with grids squares.

Tip: Cut the pages in half to fit a mini clipboard if you wish.

Above is a 3 inch x 4 inch card with our Man on the Moon Rubber Stamp and a favorite saying of mine for journal pages, "Shine like the whole universe is yours." I used this saying on a pet memorial page and so it has special meaning to me. I created the card before practicing the letters. See photo below for how I did after practicing.

There are 4 blocks to practice drawing each letter. After one practice, I decided to create a journal page.

Even though the page is larger, you will see that the letters are much improved, practice does make perfect!

I hope you enjoy the hand lettering practice download. This style of lettering if fun because it has so many ways to decorate an individual letter, adding shading, decorating the shading, drawing the little curves, and so on. The printed grid lines and boxes will help you draw the letters to maintain consistency in appearance. Use a pencil or pen, it's up to you! I always pencil first, then draw using a thin line marker, then erase all pencil marks.

Think of one of your favorite quotes or sayings to practice hand lettering for journal cards and pages. With a little practice, you will even become skilled enough to hand write on a handmade card. I know you can do it!

IPhone Cover Decor

Since Xyron has a fabulous way of making anything into a sticker, I decided to create décor for the back of my cell phone case. Taking beautiful, damask patterned glitter paper from DCWV, 6x6 pad, 'The Glitter Basics" I cut out my iPhone 6s cover pattern using a template I created in plain white cardstock of my case. To cut out the circle in the middle, I used an X-Acto knife.     The Scooter Rubber Stamp was embossed on red paper and cut out with scissors.  I smudged 'Claret' color StazOn ink around the edges.       After placing the scooter through the Xyron Creative Station, I placed it onto the iPhone pattern and ran both through together.  The Creative Station can take such thick items.  You will see below that I ran embellishments made from shrink plastic and it had no problem with them. One of the magical features of the Xyron's sticker makers is that the top of your project comes out unscathed.  You just peel the plas

Time is Flying

In our rubber stamp catalog, we have many designs of clocks and of wings. If you stamp these designs together, you get a wonderful theme: Time flies.... so be sure to do what you love! The common saying is that Time flies when you're having fun.  Well, that is exactly what you'll have when you create ATCs with these rubber stamps. A standard ATC (artist trading card) measures 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches (6,35 cm x 8,89 cm).  Take 3 ATCs and distress the background whatever way you wish, you can't go wrong here, with distressing anything goes! Then add the stamps, here is how..... From left to right above: Make Today Count ATC Time Flies...Use Your Wings ATC Start Doing Things You Love ATC Above ATC features our  Pocket Watch Rubber Stamp  and one of the wings from  Wings Collection Rubber Stamp Set . I colored in the pocket watch with a gold metallic marker and various blue Tombow markers on the wing feathers. The girl is a sticker. I colored the face with a subtle pink hue an

Journaling Techniques to Create a Card

In this project, I combined some favorite journaling techniques to create a handmade card.  For those of you that do not create junk journals, that's ok because the processes, like watercolor paint splashes, rolling edges of the paper are used below make a very pretty card with many layers. I also include below a couple of tips on keeping your tools sharp and options for using different focal points. We use a center layout where everything is built around the middle line of the card. Embellish using the top left and bottom right with a background pattern of script in black ink gives the green center a nice contrast which is often seen in journaling. (The red flowers are watercolor designs that were inkjet printed.) You can use stickers of flowers just the same. The  Venus de Milo Rubber Stamp  is now available. It measures about 1.25" wide x 3.25" tall.  The oval frame is from our  Create a Cameo Rubber Stamp Collection .  You will notice, I used the top part of the Ve
