Paints, Stamps, Thread and a Canvas Bag

Image
Handmade mini canvas tote with only 2 minutes of sewing.  I love how paper looks when you sew on it onto any project. Watercolor paper is nice and thick and can take just about any thread you use on it.  Painting the canvas with some acrylic paint gives the fabric a little stiffness.  I took a large sponge brush (about 4" wide, the ones with the beveled edge).  I the held the brush on its side, pouring acrylic paint directly onto the sponge.  Then I took a paint brush to even out the paint on the sponge.  To take the brightness down a bit on the pink, I sprayed Walnut Ink onto a scrap surface and picked it up with a sponge.  Also stamped is the 1) Vintage Paris Eiffel Tower , 2) the oval (from Create a Cameo Stamp Set ), 3) "Paris" text stamp from Fashion Tickets Set , 4) Damask background in the middle and our 5) Folk Vase Accent Rubber Stamp onto the pink canvas background.  Acrylic dries so quickly, especially on untreated canvas so I was ...

Coffee and Friends and Layers

Image
Our Coffee with Friends Rubber Stamp is perfect to give as an invitation to a friend or as a "Hey, we had fun together-thank-you-card." I often find that I don't layer enough in my projects.  The more layers you have, the better the card, tag or journal page looks.  So for this project, I forced myself to add as many color coordinating layers as possible.    A coffee card has to have some caramel colored brown shade to it. I love dollies and how they can be folded to make them even thicker as a layer.  The rick rack ribbon is a pretty pink color that goes well with brown.  The pink and red colors compliment the browns nicely and the white contrast of the doily match the embossed swirl pattern of the white accent paper on the left. The embossed paper has brown distress ink added at the edges.  Along the bottom is a charm attached to a pink safety pin, attached to another layering of the rick rack ribbon.

A Reason for Green

Image
St. Patrick's Day is an excellent reason to use the color green!  Using green dollies and green and white yarn makes the perfect accent to our Lucky Leprechaun Rubber Stamp.   Derwent's Inktense watercolor pencils colored in this little guy's outfit.  For the face and hands, I used Copic markers.  Gold glitter glue was placed on the waist and hat buckles. A No. 8 tag is used for this project.  Fiskars lace border punch was used on a beige polka patterned paper and placed on top of a green doiley, cut in half.  The leprechaun is stamped on watercolor paper and die cut with the Spellbinders Nestabilities (Large Ovals Set) die.  Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

Lady in Green and Blue Lace

Image
I took our Lady in Lace Rubber Stamp and made it an 'off-center' centerpiece for this A2 card.  Coloring in the dress with light blue and light green copics, and adding a glitterly flower in her hair was fun.  Also, I gave her a pearl ring on her finger to match the pearl accents along the top and bottom of the card front.  Normally, you wouldn't think these colors would go together, but for some reason it all worked out nicely! A 3" white doily is sandwiched between the circle that was die cut out of a 4.25" x 4" square of rainbow dotted paper.  Brown and Ivory Petaloo flowers are featured at the bottom of her dress.  The Vintage Lace design along both top and bottom of the card are from our Vintage Lace Borders stamp set.  The color of the base card is a rustic, orange-brown, but for some reason works well with the rainbow patterned paper.  A little sepia ink was added along the circle edge of the center to match the rustic look.

The Gift of Time - Altered Gift Box

Image
I love to emboss, and ever since I purchased black embossing powder, there's no stopping me! I embossed our Pocket Watch stamp onto watercolor paper and cut out around the clock part so it would fit into the metal time piece.         The 2" metal pocket watch by Tim Holtz's, Idea-Ology looks grand on an altered gift box.  I trimmed around the clock, placed some foam into the backing to prop up the stamped design (it's a 2 piece embellishment and glues together easily). Deep Red Stamps, Pocket Watch,   (sized at 2" x 2"). Top view is seen below.  Along with the metal watch, I glued on another metal embellishment, a key.  It was black in color, but I added some silver metal leaf to the surface to distress it.  The pen is a paper die cut that was decoupaged.  The corners of the top paper are curled to reveal some more silver metal leaf.  I admit that if I were to purchase metal leaf again, I would buy the gold color....

Bird and Holly, 2 ways

Image
If you're like me, I will stamp an image onto a test piece of paper (or several) before creating any project.  And, if you're like me , you have an excess of stamped images in your reserves to use someday .  I found a fun way to use those "extra stamped designs": Create a journal page!  See photo at the bottom of this post. This card is a 5.5" x 5.5" (14 cm x 14 cm) card featuring our Bird and Holly Rubber Stamp . Stamped with Brown StazOn ink onto a patterned paper and layered with burlap and green die cut trim. Fuzzy yarn in cream color surrounds the matte.  Green StazOn ink is daubered along the 2 sides.   So I took those unused, stamped images that I have been working on lately, grouped them by type or style, and placed them onto a journal page.  The well-known brand of artist papers, Strathmore has a wire bound book, "Mixed Media."  The size of each page is a perfect, 5.5" x 8.5".The weight of each page is 90 lb. and is...
